August 5, 2014 Update
On July 29, 2014, the Public Servants Disclosure Protection Tribunal issued notices of hearings for three applications against Blue Water Bridge Canada (BWBC). The hearings are expected to last three weeks and will be held in Sarnia, Ontario. They will start the week of October 6, 2014 and will continue from January 5 to 16, 2015.
On February 3, 2014, the Commissioner applied to the Tribunal for a hearing into the termination of employment and reduction of severance benefits and entitlements of three former BWBC employees in March 2013. After investigating three complaints of reprisal from these employees, the Commissioner determined there were reasonable grounds to believe that these were measures taken against them by BWBC because they made a disclosure of wrongdoing or participated in the Office’s investigation. The disclosure and related investigation resulted in a Case Report of Founded Wrongdoing at BWBC, which was tabled in Parliament in June 2013.
